Sports

Sport is an important part of everyday life as it helps to keep you fit and healthy, and is crucial in order to live a healthy lifestyle. Additionally it brings people together and gives individuals an opportunity to interact socially while participating in something they enjoy, something they have in common: sport.

Sport can also unite people from different cultures and backgrounds; they communicate and interact through a common language, the language they speak is the language of sport. This is evident in many of the popular broadcasted sports. A great example is English Football, where there are players and managers from all across the world.

It allows people to work as a team and helps build teamwork skills. Learning from, supporting and helping others is important in a team. “Skills win matches but teamwork wins championships”. Participating in sport also helps to develop qualities that individuals may have been unaware they had.

Aston Hindu Society therefore strives to offer sports to students, offered is football, netball, kabaddi and kho kho. Practices are held regularly every week and everyone is welcome no matter what level you are at. Throughout the year there are various local fixtures with other Hindu Societies of different universities. Once a year sees the national sports competition take place in Loughborough bringing different Hindu societies together to compete. Last year Aston did exceptionally well, finishing runners up in both football and netball .
