NHSF
Aston Hindu Society is affiliated to the NHSF – National Hindu Students Forum, which is an umbrella body for student societies at institutes of higher education. It was set up in 1991 with the aim of promoting a greater understanding of the Hindu faith, culture and tradition amongst young people. NHSF now represents over 15,000 Hindu students from 30 universities across the country and is the largest Hindu student movement in Europe; it aspires to build the foundations for a strong and vibrant Hindu community by establishing a youth orientated proactive agenda. In order to manage societies effectively the country is split into three zones. North, Central and South; Aston being a part of the Central zone.
NHSF (UK) exists to protect, preserve, practice and promote Hindu Dharma amongst the Hindu student population. It strives to meet its aims by providing a balanced and diverse range of activities both on a local and national level. Nationally; Sports Competition, Annual Conference and Charity Week are three of the events that students look forward to in the university calendar. Attracting a broad spectrum of students from around the country, NHSF events are well attended both locally and nationally.
Various publications are produced throughout the university term including an electronic newsletter and a magazine. HUM, the national termly publication from NHSF gives an opportunity for students and academics to contribute thought-provoking articles which increase understanding between the Hindu and non-Hindu community on a number of issues.
