Thank you to everyone who came and joined us at the guild Fresher’s fair. I hope you all enjoyed meeting some of the committee and signing up to Aston Hindu Society for 2010 and 2011. Please remember to come to the Guild on Wednesday 6th October for our meet and greet event. It will start from 2pm to 5pm. During the event, you will be able to meet fellow freshers, find out the upcoming events and eat free food.

“Sewa” literally means, “Selfless Service”. From the 2^nd – 7^th March 2009 we will have an entire fun-filled week of raising money, performing acts for the benefit of others and inspiring others to become proactive in volunteering.

You can get involved in more than one way. You may want to take on a ‘personal project’ and get sponsored for doing an act of sewa, e,g. 24 hours sponsored silence, food fasting or even wearing your pj’s to lectures!

You can also be a part of this great week by participating in organised events –

Event: PRO-EVO & SINGSTAR TOURNAMENT
Details: A computer football tournament for the boys (and girls if they want!) and also a chance for all you singers to put your voices to the test in the singstar tournament!

Details: The perfect opportunity for girls and guys to mingle and get mehndi (henna tattooing) done at the same time.

Last year raising over £5000 for the Birmingham Childrens’ Hospital and Saraswati Vidyalaya.

By Milan Nanalal NHSF Sports Competition Co-ordinator It’s back! Following last year’s unprecedented success, the NHSF Sports Competition is back for its 6th year running! Each year the competition has grown, and we want that to continue this year – with support from YOU! Last years turnout was phenomenal with over 500 students attending from chapters all across the country. This year it’s only going to be bigger and better. Alongside the traditional Indian sports of Kabbadi and Kho-Kho, competitors will also have the opportunity to participate in more widely recognised sports such as cricket, football and netball.
